Having a baby is a huge life change, and finding the time and motivation to exercise afterwards isn’t always easy. If you’re a new mum looking to get out of the house, meet other mums and gradually rebuild your fitness, my Mums, Bums & Tums class at Claremont Landscape Garden in Esher could be just what you’re looking for.
I run this friendly postnatal fitness class every Monday from 10am to 11am, combining a walk with the buggies and gentle strength and body conditioning exercises. It’s a lovely opportunity to get some fresh air, move your body and meet other local mums, all with your baby alongside you.
Mums, Bums & Tums is a buggy-friendly postnatal exercise class designed to help new mums ease back into exercise at a pace that feels right for them.
We combine walking with buggies and simple strength exercises using light dumbbells and bodyweight movements. Exercises can be adapted to suit different fitness levels and individual needs, with a focus on gradually rebuilding strength and fitness after pregnancy and childbirth.
You don’t need to be fit before you start, and there’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else. The idea is to enjoy moving again, build your confidence and do something positive for yourself.
One of the things I love about this class is the atmosphere. Becoming a mum can sometimes feel isolating, particularly when you’re spending lots of time at home with a baby. Getting out, meeting people in a similar stage of life and having a chat can make such a difference.
And because we’re all mums, we understand that babies don’t always cooperate! If your baby needs feeding, changing, cuddling or just has a little cry, it’s absolutely fine. There’s no need to apologise or feel embarrassed. We work around the babies, and everything is very relaxed.
It’s about getting some exercise, enjoying the fresh air and having a bit of time for yourself without needing to organise childcare.
Mums, Bums & Tums takes place at the beautiful Claremont Landscape Garden in Esher, Surrey. It’s a lovely setting for a buggy walk and an outdoor fitness session.
