I’ve been a fit pro for 30 years and these are the same patterns I see coming up again and again
I’ve been a fit pro for over 30 years now, so I naturally get to see first hand what works for people to get fitter and healthier, but I also see clear patterns in what tends to hold people back.
They are not big dramatic mistakes, but they are the small things that quietly stop people getting the results they want.
Read on for the most common mistakes I see.
A lot of people exercise fairly regularly, but without any real structure.
One day it might be a run, another day a quick home workout, then maybe a gym class if there is time. The effort is there, but without progression your body simply adapts and stops changing.
This is one of the biggest reasons people struggle to see results from their training.
When workouts are planned properly and gradually built over time, your body keeps adapting and improving.
The people who see the best results are usually the ones who follow a consistent routine and gradually build on it week by week.
Another common belief is that if you are not completely exhausted after a workout then it did not count.
In reality good training is about balance.
Some sessions should push intensity, some should focus more on strength, and others help improve movement and technique. If every workout is maximum effort all the time it usually leads to burnout, demotivation or injury.
This is something I hear quite a lot from people who are thinking about starting their fitness journey or thinking about coming to one of my classes.
They say they want to get a bit fitter first and then they will join a class. Please NO, DON’T WORRY!
Just start! I don’t care how fit you are , I just want to get you moving and help you.
Everyone begins somewhere and progress happens much faster when you have a helpful trainer (me!) and a supportive group around you. That’s why community classes (like my bootcamp) work so well. They give you accountability, variety, support and guidance all in one place.
The good news, as you can see, is all of the above things are very easy to fix.
When you train in a structured session with coaching and a supportive group around you it becomes much simpler. You just turn up, follow the session and gradually get stronger and fitter over time.
